- First: You need to understand that you are a sinner and cannot meet God's standard because He is holy.
- » All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. [Isa 64:6 NIV]
- » For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God [Rom 3:23]
- Second: You need to understand that your sinful life will lead to death: permanent separation from God in Hell.
- » Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned. [Rom 5:12 NIV]
- » For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. [Rom 6:23 NIV]
- Third: You need to understand that sin must be atoned for with blood: there must be a sacrifice.
- » For the life of a creature is in the blood . . . it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life. [Lev 17:11 NIV]
- » In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. [Heb 9:22 NIV]
- Fourth: You need to understand who Jesus Christ is; that He paid with His life the blood price for sin and that He is the only one who could pay the price.
- » The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. [Heb 1:3-4 NIV]
- » Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest [Jesus Christ] had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. Since that time He waits for His enemies to be made His footstool, because by one sacrifice He has made perfect forever those who are being made holy. [Heb 10:11-14 NIV]
- Fifth: You need to understand there is no way to God except through Christ.
- » Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [Joh 14:6]
- » Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. [Act 4:12 NIV]
- Sixth: You need to receive Jesus Christ.
- » Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. [Joh 1:12 NIV]
- » For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. [Joh 3:16 NIV]
- Seventh: You need to understand that to receive Jesus Christ is to live in obedience to Him.
- » If you love Me, you will obey what I command. [Joh 14:15 NIV]
- » For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. [Eph 2:8-10 NIV]
- » Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that — and shudder. [Jam 2:18-19 NIV]
- Eighth: You need to understand that following Christ necessitates a change in your worldview.
- » Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is — His good, pleasing and perfect will. [Rom 12:1-2 NIV]
- » So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. [Col 2:6-10 NIV]
- Finally: You need to speak to others that Jesus Christ is the Savior and King of the whole world.
- » Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." [Mat 28:18-20 NIV]
- » That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. [Rom 10:9-10 NIV]
