The Gap Between John McCain and Obama is Widening

A couple days ago, a key legislative aid for a local congressman and I were discussing the upcoming Presidential Election. We were both lamenting that if John McCain continued to kick in the teeth of the conservatives, he was going to lose this election for sure. And the two of us were probably not going to vote for a president at all.

It is just amazing that McCain has been given this election on a silver platter and he has done nothing to take advantagage of it. While Obama is strutting around like some love child messiah, McCain could blow the whole facade with just two clear sentences of substance. Instead, he uses his every opportunity to take another swipe at his base. And in fact, that almost appears what he meant to do when he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate. He mentioned all the wrong, polically correct reasons why he chose her – as if to diss the conservatives, once again, and appeal instead to the disenfranchised Hillary groupies.

He chose the wrong woman to make his point, though she tipped her hat to the cause of breaking the glass ceiling, she does not hold womens’ rights above American justice and values and she does not cater to victimhood blah blah. I don’t think he had any intention to ignite the conservatives to his side but that is exactly what he did.

He chose the right woman to win this election. In fact, I think he chose the right running mate – flat out! If you remember the men who have been running the past three or four elections cycles, they have given us nothing to cheer about. None of them have had a vision. None of them have raised a banner. They all test the waters and even the “Christian” candidates capitulate to big government. Now comes a woman who is not afraid to stand up for what she is: a Conservative, Pro-Life American!

It is always so much safer in politics to avoid risk; just kinda go along with the status quo. I didn’t get into government to do the safe and easy things. A ship in harbor is always safe – but that is not why the ship is built.

Politics is not a game of competing interests and clashing parties. The people of America expect us to seek public office and serve for the right reason. And the right reason is to challenge the status quo and to serve the common good. . . We are expected to govern with integrity, goodwill, clear conviction and a servant’s heart. Before this choice, if I were to vote for McCain, it would have only been to defeat Obama. Now, God has given us a ray of hope. What are we going to do with it? I say, it is high time to raise the banner for Pro-Life, Limited Government Conservatism and be proud of it. America is looking for an answer, if Christians want to fidget it away, we leave them no choice but to vote for the messiah.

This is the great opportunity to revive the message of freedom. And when McCain/Palin get elected, my brother, the mayor of North Pole, will be free to toss his hat in for governor of Alaska.

To end this piece, I thought I would quote a portion of what the NRA has to say about Sarah Palin. If you did not think there was much difference between McCain and Obama, consider that there is a world of difference between Palin and Biden.

And when it comes to guns, the two prospective vice-presidents are as far apart as the states from which they hail.

Sen. McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is a NRA Life Member and hunter who says, “I support our Constitutional right to bear arms and am a proponent of gun safety programs for Alaska’s youth,” adding “I have always strongly supported the personal use of fish and game by Alaskans. I grew up hunting and fishing in Alaska, and I am proud to raise my children with this same uniquely Alaskan heritage.”

NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris W. Cox says “Governor Palin doesn’t just talk about supporting the Second Amendment, it’s part of her life, and she did her part to vindicate the Second Amendment for all Americans when Alaska joined 30 other states in signing a legal brief supporting Heller’s challenge to the D.C. gun-ban.”

As for Joe Biden, from Delaware, the Brady Campaign sums it up in a straightforward enough fashion, saying, “Senator Biden has been a consistent supporter of the Brady Campaign,” and “Senator Biden was a key player in the fight for the federal assault weapons ban that passed in 1994. He also worked hard for passage of the Brady Law (sic).”

In fact, Biden introduced an “assault weapons” ban in Congress five years before the Clinton gun and magazine ban was imposed. In 1989, Biden’s Senate Bill 1970 proposed to ban the Colt AR-15 and eight similar firearms as “assault weapons,” and authorize the Secretary of the Treasury (in reality, BATF) and the Attorney General to recommend to Congress any other firearms, regardless of type, to be banned as “additional assault weapons.”
