Obama is screening political appointments based upon gun ownership. Here is question fifty-nine of his sixty-three question application:
“Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”
According to most political pundits, including members of the 2000 Bush transition team, this question is unprecedented. Half-joking, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) suggested the question was to save Obama from a Dick Cheney style hunting accident embarrassment. However, even Matt Bennett, who did a stint at Americans for Gun Safety and now is employed at the Democratic think tank Third Way noted that only a small percentage of guns are ever used improperly and said, “It strikes me as overly lawyerly.”
The NRA is up-in-arms, so to speak. And Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) has promised to enact legislation to bar federal hiring discrimination on the basis of gun ownership. He conceded it was unrealistic to try to get a bill through during the lame duck session this week. At this point it is a symbolic move. I agree but I think it is important to begin marking the difference between Republican lawmakers and the Obama administration.
Two political appointments to keep your eyes on:
Chief of Staff: Rahm Emanuel was on the paid board of Freddie Mac and has benefited over fifty-one thousand dollars in campaign contributes from Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae since his successful run for Congress on 2002.
Obama rewards those involved in the largest mortgage-finance downfall in the history of our nation, or the world. It was he and his liberal gang in Congress that forced regulations upon the leading lending institutions to accept and promote marginal and risky lending policies. They promoted this as non-discriminatory and giving a hand up to the poor and they beat back a Republican push to clean up risky lending policies. The inevitable collapse that he help orchestrate could not have come at a better time than when he was running for election and his campaign and the media were able to paint the blame on the Republicans who tried to prevent it and deregualtion. FDR could not have planned it better.
Director of Communications: Ellen Moran. She is an ex-AFL-CIO operative and currently the executive director of EMILY’s List, a fundraising lobby that backs female candidates who support abortion rights.
Abortion is the change we have been looking for and now one of its biggest voices will be the large voice from Obama’s office. God save us.
No, I did not forget Hillary’s almost-certain appointment to Secretary of State. We won’t need to keep our eyes on that one – it will be in our faces.
Obama has a plan to save our economy: an FDR style federal work program aimed at improving roads, bridges and schools. He said, “These aren’t just steps to pull ourselves out of this immediate crisis. These are the long-term investments in our economic future that have been ignored for far too long.”
Our roads might need improvement, however, if you have done any amount of travel across the States, you know the roads and schools have not been ignored. Everywhere you travel, you are interrupted with road construction and you can see new schools being built just as often. I thought this was the man who claimed we needed to get out of our cars.
Think for a minute. We have more and more money poured into schools and as the years go by, it takes longer and longer for kids to learn to read – some never accomplishing the task by the time they graduate. Now, Obama proposes to raise taxes on the backs of the fewer and fewer gainfully employed to build even more schools, giving school districts even more power against alternative choices and homeschooling. This will further entrench the school unions and lobbies.
Obama’s style of change is to remove all our spare change and take away our dissenting voices.
