Non-partisan WCEJC is Now Officially Liberal

According to the 14 August issue of The Olympian, Judge William Baker’s “non-partisan” group ruled in favor of Robin Hunt’s complaint against Tim Ford and ruled against BIAW’s complaint against Robin Hunt. The Building Industry Association of Washington (BIAW) mailed out a pamphlet citing cases and rulings, pointing out errors and prejudice on the part of liberal candidate, Robin Hunt. Tim Ford, when asked by Judge Baker’s “non-partisan” group, to disavow the ads, refused. He said the ads were accurate.

On the other hand, Robin Hunt sent out a mailing stating that Tim Ford is “inexperienced, ambitious and a danger to the interests of injured people.” No cases, no issues, just ad hominem character assassinations. After Robin Hunt filed a claim with the Washington Committee for Ethical Judicial Campaigns, Judge Baker’s “non-partisan” group, for the “attack” in BIAW’s flyer, BIAW filed a claim with the group against Ms. Hunt for her character slams against Tim Ford.

The Washington Committee for Ethical Judicial Campaigns (WCEJC) began after the “nasty” 2006 judicial campaigns. Nasty, meaning that the conservative candidates and third parties were citing examples of judicial activism and incompetence by liberal judges, whereupon, liberal candidates and third parties would return fire with ad hominem rounds. Of course, the media was always quick to point out the nasty attacks by the conservatives and supported the “informative details” of the liberals.

Tired of the underhanded campaign strategies, Judge Baker, following the mantra of Rodney King, formed the WCEJC, setting themselves up as the sole arbiter of campaign complaints. We do not need the courts, or the CJC, to resolve these squabbles anymore! The list of primary movers and shakers in this group reads like a who’s who of liberal, elites in the Puget Sound region. The only near-conservative name was that of Judy Maleng. I say “near-conservative” only, in that, Judy is a Republican but it should be noted she is endorsing liberal candidates and is chairing the campaign of the liberal judicial candidate, Barbara Mack.

It is not surprising, this “non-partisan” group found that the character attacks, specifically the fear tactic statement that Tim Ford, the conservative, was “inexperienced, ambitious and a danger to the interests of injured people,” was not worth hearing and rendering a decision. And, it is not surprising that citing examples of activism and incompetence, that is, revealing what the person says and does, was ruled “misleading, inaccurate, and inappropriate in a campaign for high judicial office” in favor of Robin Hunt, the liberal.

According to the newspaper account, “Timothy Harris, in-house counsel for the BIAW, ridiculed the committee Wednesday for what he called its hypocrisy in condemning the mailers while letting a campaign’s letter impugning a candidate go unanswered. ‘These guys are standing behind candidates they like; if they haven’t already they ought to register as a political action committee.’”

Baker said he thinks his committee is a success. He says that candidates are aware of his “citizen group” and that they are gearing campaigns to avoid incurring the wrath of the commoittee. If Justice William C. Goodloe had ever established a group such as this and stocked it with conservative “citizens,” he would have been ridiculed, by the media and liberals, into oblivion. Meanwhile, this liberal, “non-partisan” group accumulates more power with every event and corresponding endorsement by the liberal media.

Judge Baker, I think you are not content to be retired and are interested in empire building. Your apparent goal is in giving your liberal friends a leg-up when “attacked” by the facts. I will have to agree with Tim Harris – you ought to register as a political action committee.

No one is looking for substance. But we keep on writing and we think someone will read it. Oh, how we deceive ourselves -- convinced of our own immortality. Words, words, words . . . - cominus
