See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. . . who is the head over every power and authority. [Col 2:8-10 NIV]

Barack Obama and the Weathermen

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

© Tom DeWeese, December 22, 2008

Since just before the election of Barack Obama in November, it has been interesting and quite shocking that a forty-year old, seemingly forgotten radical group called “Weatherman” is getting so much attention. Of course, Obama denies any connection to old Weathermen. Here’s a quick history of the “Weathermen” and why it’s relevant to a new president calling for an undefined “change.

You’ve heard the famous names: Bill Ayres, Mark Rudd, Bernadine Dohrn and Jeff Jones, among others. Today, Ayres describes himself as a professor; Dohrn is his wife and a clinical law professor, Jeff Jones, predictably is an environmentalist and political consultant, and Mark Rudd is now a teacher. Just normal Americans, living their lives. Really?

The Obama Blagojevich Connection

Monday, December 15th, 2008

This is from David Crowe, RestoreAmerica.org

“In Chicago, January 2003, Barack Obama was chairman of The (State) Senate Health & Human Services Committee and played a major role in pushing through Senate Bill 1332.  The Bill reduced the number of (Planning) Board members from 15 to 9, making votes easier to pass. Board members would be appointed by Governor Blagojevich.” (Hilites mine - Crowe)

“Stuart Levine sought Board reappointment and told Blagojevich he would vote however they wanted when approving projects.”

“Jennifer Thomas, a former Blagojevich aide, testified that she attended weekly meetings at Tony Rezko’s office between spring 2003 and November 2004 where Rezko said Levine should be reappointed.” (Blagojevich and Rezko were working together and it appears that Obama was either knowingly involved or extremely naieve and easily duped.)

Swedes Confront Shift to Right

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Amy Goodman’s editorial today is somewhat confusing. Her article generally espouses her leftist leanings but she ends the article with a warning against the leftward shift in America.

The article titled, “Swedes Confront Shift To Right,” begins with recounting the origin of the Nobel Prize and the current celebration in Sweden. Then, she continues with support for and quotes from anti-war activists in that country. She praises those who do damage to property under the guise of, as she says, “the biblical prescription of Isaiah 2:4, turning ’swords into plowshares’.” In this, she dramatically misuses the Scriptures because this is not a “biblical prescription.” It is a prophesy of Christ’s reign on earth, that He will bring peace and nations will then turn swords into plowshares.

Thanksgiving Day and the Redistribution of Wealth

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

A few days ago, I received an email that was forwarded with a message from a pastor. I do not remember his name, so we will call him Pastor Salvation Only. His message was he never gets involved in political issues because his mission is the gospel of Jesus Christ. According to him, the people sent a message loud and clear in this 2008 election, they are looking for Jesus Christ. He gave two examples, one was we have abused credit and now the people voted for Obama in repentance for their financial excesses. The other example I do not remember. He then went on to rebuff pastors that get off the track of preaching salvation through Jesus Christ and that now, because the people are truly looking for Jesus Christ, that is our only mission.

Pastor Salvation Only is very wrong. In fact, he is part of the problem. The Bible tells us clearly that man is not looking for God, as Pastor Salvation Only claims (Isa 64:7, Rom 3:11). While there are several admonitions to seek after God, the Bible tells us man may tip his hat to God while seeking his own way (Isa 58, Jer 7). Pastor Salvation Only is wrong, in that this election was not a declaration that man is looking for Jesus Christ, or looking for repentance. This election was a declaration that man is looking for a messiah, a rock star, a leader who will make them feel good about themselves, a leader who will bring change, without requiring them to change their lifestyles - or repentance.

Obama: Guns, Appointments and (Spare) Change

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

Obama is screening political appointments based upon gun ownership. Here is question fifty-nine of his sixty-three question application:

“Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.”

According to most political pundits, including members of the 2000 Bush transition team, this question is unprecedented. Half-joking, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio) suggested the question was to save Obama from a Dick Cheney style hunting accident embarrassment. However, even Matt Bennett, who did a stint at Americans for Gun Safety and now is employed at the Democratic think tank Third Way noted that only a small percentage of guns are ever used improperly and said, “It strikes me as overly lawyerly.”

In memorium: Ed McMichaels, Seattle’s Tuba Man

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

He was known as the Tuba Man. The bearded man in the glasses and funny hat who played the Tuba for fans outside the city sports arenas. When the team won, the tunes were cheerful; when they lost, he played a dirge. He had his own fans too; people that looked for him after the games. Some brought him food, some brought trinkets and souvenirs. My sister was one of them. She always made sure he had some money.

Edward McMichaels was in my sister’s class at King’s Garden. The class of ‘73; the year after mine. He was the slow-going guy with the unique drawl. Sometimes we razzed him for it and he played along with us. I don’t think he took himself too seriously. He remembered everything and wherever he went, he had a pile of books in tow - or a tuba.

Ed and I played in the band together. We were the only players in the high school band who were in the junior high - and we were to only ones playing tubas. Ed played bass tuba and I played the sousaphone - that’s the one that wraps around the player. I was a ninety pound kid playing a fifty pound tuba and we both received plenty of razzing from the other members, but I think they were jealous because we were so young.

Just after midnight, on October twenty-fifth, a handful of young thugs surrounded Ed, kicking and beating him with the intention to rob him. I don’t think he had much money. His greatest wealth was his love for people, but the thugs weren’t looking for that. After spending a couple days in the hospital, he went home - and died.

It would be nice if I told you I had kept touch with him all these years and that his death will be a great loss to me. But I have kept in touch with few from my high school days - and I don’t go to games. Nonetheless, his death is a great loss to me because I know Ed touched many lives for good and even though I have not seen him in years, all my memories of him are good and I cannot reconcile the waste of kicking this man to death for the spare change and the power of brutality.

Ed, I hope you stood firm in your faith in Jesus Christ all these years and I hope to see you in heaven.

The Truth About Obama is He Does Not Tell The Truth

Monday, October 27th, 2008

From: Michael Master
To: Barack  Obama,

The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008 that proved you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted.   While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.

The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008 that FBI records showed that you had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you previously admitted.   In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr. Rezko a couple of times a year.   The FBI files showed that you saw him weekly.  While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.

Where Has Cominus Been Lately

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Several readers have been wondering what I have been up to this month as there are not many posts. If you have been looking for my take on the investor buyout - I will make this quick. If you invest money and you lose - bail yourself out. Don’t expect me or my kids to do that. Here we have wealthy investors who have squandered opportunity - and they hold “the economy” over our head. The bailout is going to cost us more than the cold turkey will.

Some of these investors are our friends from China - you know, the country that refused to stand by shoddy workmanship, so our nation took the loss. Now they want us to stand by our “shoddy” investments so they don’t have to take the loss. It only works one way for China.   (more…)

Supreme Problems for Attorney Steve Eugster

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Spokane attorney and former city councilman Steve Eugster is no friend of mine. Neither is his attorney, Shawn Neuman. The only thing the three of us hold in common is our desire for government accountability. How that is accomplished and where we stand on life and moral issues, is where we part company. Despite our disagreement, I have never viewed either one as dishonest or unethical and I would be willing to vouch for either one of these fine men.

Steve Eugster is before the Supreme Court facing charges that could lead to his disbarment. According to the Spokane Review the charge is that he betrayed “a client when he asked a court to have a woman who’d just fired him declared incapable of running her own affairs.” His client was the late Marion Stead, an 87-year-old Colville widow. She hired Eugster because she was “suspicious of how her only child, Roger Samuels, was handling her financial affairs.”
