Books by Cominus
My Prayer Closet (2011)
Under the Tower of Babel (1995)
Solomon wrote there will be no end of the writing of books. If he lived now, he would decry the endless cacophony of electronic verbiage. Page after page of endless, mindless tripe. People selling something; people saying something. No body reading anything! If the page doesn't have pictures, [click] the viewer is gone. Everyone is looking for entertainment. No one is looking for substance. But we keep on writing and we think someone will read it. Oh, how we deceive ourselves -- convinced of our own immortality. Words, words, words . . . - cominus

Regarding Viral Videos: Jesus Christ or Religion?
Regarding the video gone viral where the young man professes to hate religion but love Jesus: Jesus did not come to abolish religion, as this young man claims. In fact, Jesus Christ said the dot will not be removed from the “i” nor the cross from the “t.” The Bible tells us to put our [...]

Isaiah 5:1-7 The Song of the Vineyard
These seven verses are a song. The song begins with the beloved singing to her lover and ends with her lover’s response. Israel is the beloved and God is the lover. This is the song God gave to Israel through Isaiah. It is doubtful they ever sang the song. I say this because the intent [...]

Isaiah 4:2-6 The Branch and the Catastrophe
“In that day the Branch of the LORD shall be beautiful and glorious.” [Isa 4:2 ESV] There are several other verses which refer to Christ as the Branch. Isaiah 11:1 mentions the Branch that shoots from the stump of Jesse. Jeremiah 23:5 and 33:15 say the Branch, coming from the line of David, will reign [...]

Isaiah 3:1-4:1 God Removes Comfort and Honor
This passage continues with what Isaiah saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem (2:1). Several translations begin the third chapter of Isaiah with “behold.” The NIV says, “see now.” The imperative is that we look, see and understand – and repent. Isaiah was writing to warn Judah – but as you read the book, you will understand [...]

Isaiah 2:6-22 The Day of the Lord
Isaiah has just given us a picture of what Christ’s millennial reign in Jerusalem will look like. Immediately, in the present passage, he contrasts that with a picture of God’s wrath, or the coming Day of the LORD. After describing the glory and justice of Christ’s reign, Isaiah ends the passage with an admonishment to [...]

Isaiah 1:21 – 2:5 God’s Plan Will Overcome Opposition
Beginning in verse 21, it appears God is rehashing His case against Israel by restating her offenses. She was once faithful but now she has prostituted herself; in other words, she previously served God but now she is consumed in her pursuit of wealth and personal comfort – she has sold herself to pleasure. Where [...]

Isaiah 1:1-20 Rebellion to God Brings Catastrophe
Isaiah is contemporary with the prophets Hosea, Amos and Micah (Hos 1:1; Amo 1:1 and Mic 1:1). Both Isaiah and Micah describe their books as concerning a vision. Micah describes his vision in seven chapters and Isaiah describes his in sixty-six. Isaiah served the Lord during the reigns of the Judean kings, Uzziah (Azariah), Jotham, [...]

Do Murdered Unborn Babies Go To Heaven?
This is a question that many wrestle with. Some Christians believe God chooses those who are saved and others believe they choose God. I am of the former and further believe those who are chosen were chosen before the creation of the world (Eph 1:4). Regardless, which view you take in this matter, there are [...]

What Is Doing All Things Through Christ?
One of the great motivational verses of the Scriptures is, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” To some Christians, it is their “life verse.” Others recite it as a cure-all for adversity, or as a propellant for new goals. This phrase is often used in the context of striving for [...]
